Our Story

Amedea was born in 1939 in the village of Svetvinčenat on the Istrian peninsula, Croatia.

When she moved to Kanfanar to marry her husband Marčelo, she became head mistress of the local school, and a teacher of the national Croatian dance for over 40 years. In her free time she loved to do oil paintings of rural scenes and flowers.

She was also my nice little grandma... Or in Croatian, moja mala Nona!

Café-Bar Amedea was opened in Whitstable in August 2019.

Our favourite food & drink from Croatia and the Balkans is served by Ed, his sister Saskia, his mum Suzi + the rest of our fabulous team!

We hope to replicate the genuine feel of Croatia & beyond to put you straight into holiday mode!
